(Open Top Four - Jay LaPalm 1st, Adrian Pina 2nd, Steve Collins 3rd and Vassar Triplett 4th) RACE
#1 REPORT Reviving the tradition of a local race series in Southern California, SK8KINGS and friends kicked off a four race outlaw series on Sunday June 8 in Pasadena. It was only fitting to jump start the series at a big hill with an even bigger reputation as an epic outlaw venue- JPL. Racers came from all over to challenge the hill and give it all they had in the foothill heat.
Since the last time a big outlaw was held here some needed repairs were made to the surface so the course was set to take full advantage of the speed of the hill -- making it a fast but still fun Super-G race! Official timekeeping was provided by local celebrity Steve Olson -- how can you top that? The overall vibe was friendly and cool and it was great to see so many original FCR (Fat City Racing) series racers come out and kill it!
Pro class raced for the cash and open for schwag in the best of a three run format. Local pro racers, Richy Carrasco, Mike Maysey and Brent Kosick battled Greg Fadell (all the way from Detroit) for the top four finish and cash payout. Fadell layed down the time of the day on his first run. Maysey held second through round two but Carrasco turned it up on his last run sending Maysey to 3rd with Kosick in 4th.
Open class was ruled by central coast riders Jay LaPalm in lst and Adrian Pina in 2nd with So Cal local Steve Collins holding 3rd over Vassar Triplett 4th -- who also had the best beef of the day.
Race #2 of the series is August 23 at Pump Station in San Diego. The final two races will follow in October (4th and 26th) culminating with an overall “King of So Cal” series winner to be crowned at the grand finale event October 26.
